A garden house is really something nice. Depending on which model you choose, you can store your garden tools in it or even live in it. Garden sheds can finally be set up as small apartments. Especially children love to sleep here with their friends in summer. So they are not far from home, but still in their own realm.

Garden sheds are so much more today, just like sheds. It can be where a lot of it. Especially externally. For example, you can paint the garden house or transplant it with flowers. Yes you can even green the roof of the garden house. This looks really nice and is a real eye-catcher. Among other things, you also create a habitat for plants and animals. The roof of a garden house does not have to look so dull. With a few simple steps you conjure up a small green oasis.

Types of green roofs

Experts distinguish between two different types of roof greening. Extensive and intensive green roofs.

extensive green roofs:

In the extensive roof greening a layer of about 10 centimeters high plants is created, which is very close to nature. In order to realize this, mosses, herbs and grasses are usually planted on the roof. Even low shrubs such as house root and stonecrop can find their place here.

intensive green roofs:

In the case of intensive green roofs, on the other hand, shrubs, small shrubs, trees and grasses are placed on the roof. This type of roof greening then usually has a height of about 20 to 40 centimeters. As you can imagine, extensive green roofs are much easier to maintain compared to intensive ones, as they allow the plants to grow easily. In the intensive version, you also have to trim the shrubs, shrubs and trees.

No matter which variant you choose, the green roofs always work best on a garden shed with a flat roof.

So you green a garden house roof

First of all you have to clean the roof and then lay out a protective fleece and a PE root protection foil, so that the roof can not be attacked by the roots. Then lay out protective fleece again. The lanes should best overlap about 10 centimeters. Then cut the drainage holes free.

  • Now you have to lay out a drainage layer of mats. This is important, because only then you will not have to water the garden house roof later. These mats should also overlap slightly laterally. Do not forget to cut the roof drain freely.
  • Subsequently, a layer of filter fleece must follow. This ensures the nutrient balance and also provides more support. Again, make sure that the tracks overlap.
  • Now you can already distribute the substrate on the garden house roof. This layer should be about 8 inches high. Then you can then set the same plants, sprinkle sprouts or seeds sow. Just the way you want it. Finally, water everything well.
  • Now it only depends on the right care. In the first four weeks, you should water the garden house roof about four times each week, so that the plants and seeds grow well. Otherwise you only have to weed one or two times a year . You also need to rid the earth of birch or willow seeds.
